"HOBO"
There's a tear in my eye for the Hobo tonight, As i think of the days gone past, When he rode the range in his big Mack truck, And country music was close to his heart.
For the love of life and his music, He followed all through the years, Buck Owens, Merle Harrard, OL' Waylon, Were some he loved to hear.
A modern day Hobo he drifted, A restless in his soul, From place to place life to him, Searching for an elusive goal.
Then tradegy struck as he loaded his truck, That fearful day in March, It changed his life in an instance, And tore his world apart.
Hobo i know your out there, My thoughts are with you still, To see you walk through that door right now, Would be my biggest thrill.
Tonight i am thinking of you, And wishing for you all the best, I know you've the will to make it, Now you have been put through the test.
And no matter whatever the future, No matter where you maybe, Part of my heart will be with you, And you'll always be "HOBO" to me.
Written by Dad's dear friend Mother Bear 1993
Like the poem says my Dad was a HOBO wondering around not settling down, He was a terrific person to know and everyone liked him. I always thought of him as a cuddly bear.I went everywhere with Dad. He took me to Rodeo's and Country Music shows "That's where I get the love of country music from" During school holidays I would go Out driving with him in his truck He also had a passion for horses. He owned a beautiful Palimino named "DUKE" I think Dad named him that after John Wayne As he loved watching his Movies. My Dad would have been real happy on a Ranch riding horses all day everyday if he could of. Instead he drove trucks from the time he was old enough to do it leagally...
My Dad didn't die in a truck accident but he did die as a restult of injuries he got after loading his truck. The day of the accident was 9th March 1992, He had been feeling sick all weekend with the flu and wouldn't stay at home to rest. He loaded up his truck ready for afternoon deliveries As he jumped down from the back of the truck he lost his footing and fell over. He hit his head on some cement and cracked his skull. He was in intensive care for a week, Then he fell again while in hospital slipping on a wet floor.. After this fall he was a vegetable, couldn't do anything our even speak, which was hard for all us children.
My Dad went from the jolly good fun man to a shadow of himself After spending the last of his days in a Rehab center he ended up dying on the New Years Day 1993, This was 10 months after his first accident. We miss him and there isn't a day that goes by that We don't wish he was with us here and now.
